UConn LSAMP Research Project in Shanghai, China (Direct Enroll)

The Program

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a public research university located in Shanghai, China. With an enrollment of over 42,000 students it is one of the top universities in China and very well known for its research programs.  A full program overview can be found at this website:

To apply: Contact your LSAMP advisor. Complete the application at this link no later than Friday, March 3, 2017:  In addition to the application, students will also need to submit a CV, letter of interest, transcript, ID photo (similar to a passport photo), scan of the identification page of your passport, recommendation letter and report of any previous research experience in order to be considered for this program.  Please note that if you are selected for this internship, you will then need to complete an application through UConn’s Education Abroad office in order to participate (UConn application deadline: Friday, March 17, 2017).

The Academics

Students on this 8 week summer program will have the opportunity to conduct research under a faculty member at SJTU. From Engineering to Biology and Life Sciences, there are a large number of projects available for which students may apply. The list of projects for 2017 is here:

Students have the option of receiving academic credit for their research, and are advised to discuss the requirements and process for receiving academic credit for research with their LSAMP advisors.


The Experience

Students will live in SJTU dormitories for the duration of this program. Cultural excursions are also included so that students will be able to explore Shanghai and learn more about Chinese language, culture and traditions. Students will receive an official certificate from the university upon completion of the research internship as well as an official transcript from SJTU for the research program.
