Overview of University Privacy Notices
In order to provide you with the services and support the University offers as part of its mission and purposes, we at times need to collect, store and/or process certain information about prospective and current members of our University community, as well as our website guests. The University of Connecticut values your privacy and takes the protection of personal information very seriously. We recognize that these efforts require us to secure your information appropriately and to handle it respectfully. We have developed various privacy notices and posted them on the University Privacy Notices webpage to provide information about our data collection and processing practices. These notices will inform you in greater detail about the types of information we collect, how we may use it and how we maintain it based upon the relationship(s) you may have with the University.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as amended affords students certain rights regarding their educational records. This law is also known as FERPA and the Buckley Amendment. Students have a right to know the purpose and content of their education records, and which University offices maintain their education records; the right to request changes be made to education records; and the right to appeal a decision of a University faculty or staff member not to make the changes requested. For purposes of FERPA, the University considers all students to be independent. Therefore, educational records will not be provided to parents without the written consent of the student.
As defined by UConn’s Office of Privacy Protection & Management, FERPA-protected Education Abroad records include “application status, materials, and progress including country/university of study, travel arrangements, transcripts, correspondence, and related fees.” Education Abroad will not provide access to a student’s FERPA-protected Education Abroad records unless that student has granted access to a specific designee.
Education Abroad utilizes UConn’s FERPA Designated Pin Page (FDPP) system to confirm whether a student has designated access to their Education Abroad records to specific individuals. Students may access it online at the Share My Information page of the UConn FERPA site.

In compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other protocols, UConn has articulated the following privacy policies related to Education Abroad:
