Civil Engineering

The laws of math and physics may be universal but how engineering is practiced varies around the world. Taking your engineering studies abroad will illustrate how theory is applied to make better systems and designs that work to solve problems in an international context while expanding necessary soft skills like cross-cultural communication, teamwork, and leadership that will help you become a standout engineer.

The earliest term that you are able to participate in an experience abroad is the summer directly after your first-year. We do not recommend participating in an experience abroad in your senior year so that you do not conflict with the “Senior Design” seminar course.

When planning an experience abroad, be sure to keep in mind your electives, any extra credits you may be able to use to your advantage, as well as current and upcoming terms in your course of study.

We strongly recommend exploring exchange options as they typically provide the biggest selection of courses to choose from and are typically the easiest courses to transfer back.

For Civil Engineering majors, our current top exchange programs are:

  • Hong Kong University
  • Lund University
  • McGill University
  • Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
  • National University of Singapore
  • University of Birmingham
  • University of Edinburgh
  • University of Glasgow
  • University of Melbourne
  • University of New South Wales
  • University of Queensland
