Title IX and Sexual Violence
The University of Connecticut is committed to creating and maintaining a campus environment free from all forms of sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking. As a University, we are committed to ensuring compliance with Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on the sex (gender) of employees and students. UConn’s Title IX website includes more information, support and resources to anyone impacted by sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence and/or stalking.
UConn students studying abroad who experience any forms of sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence or stalking can receive support and resources from UConn, even while abroad. If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence and/or stalking while receiving education abroad, you are encouraged to immediately talk to your Study Abroad Program’s Resident Director as well as to report directly to the University.
It is important for victim-survivors to know that resources can offer assistance even if you do not file a report or press charges. This includes help with medical and counseling services, academic and housing support, referrals to legal and confidential advocacy organizations, and assistance with working, visa and immigration, transportation, financial aid matters and more. Confidential advocacy resources in the United States offer free, confidential support, and your Resident Director can help to connect you with support resources abroad in the country where you are studying.
For faculty and staff traveling abroad with students, the What to do when a student reports sexual violence, relationship violence and/or stalking document outlines the process and provides resources for assisting students and fulfilling the University’s reporting requirements for employees.
