Prospective Students

Application Process

  1. Attend an Education Abroad 101 (or watch online!) - check our events calendar for more information.
  2. Research programs on our website
  3. Make an appointment with an Education Abroad Advisor or come to general walk in hours with a Global Student Mentor
  4. Open an application off of the individual program page.
  5. On your applicant homepage, you will see a checklist of everything you need to complete. Application requirements vary by program. The application requires a $25 application fee, one or more short essays, and two required academic letters of recommendation. You can send recommendation requests right through your application
    • Please note that third-party providers, like CIEE, IES, IFSA-Butler, require you to submit a separate application in addition to that required by UConn Education Abroad.
  6. Education Abroad will review your application once it is complete and the application deadline has passed.
    • If you are participating in a UConn Faculty-Led Program, notification of acceptance will be emailed to you on the ‘Decision Date’ for your program.
    • If you are participating in an Exchange Program, notification of acceptance will only be emailed to you once the host institution issues an official acceptance letter.  You will be emailed by UConn Education Abroad beore the advertised ‘Decision Date’ to inform you if you have been nominated for the exchange, which means that UConn supports your application; however it does not guarantee acceptance into the host institution’s exchange program
    • If you are participating in a program through a third party provider, notification of acceptance from UConn Education Abroad will only be emailed to you once the third party provider has issued you an acceptance letter.  It is your responsibility to make sure UConn Education Abroad receives a copy of your acceptance letter from the third party provider.
  7. After you have been accepted, you will have seven days to decide if you would like to participate in the study abroad program. If you wish to participate in your study abroad program, you need to digitally sign the Student Contract.
    • In addition to signing the Student Contract, there are other materials you will need to upload or submit in hard copy to UConn Education Abroad after you have been accepted into the program.
  8. Finally, you will be required to watch pre-departure orientation and take a post-orientation assessment.
