The London College of Fashion has offered Study Abroad programs based in London for over 25 years. They are unique in offering international students the opportunity to study a range of professional, career oriented, fashion theory and skills based courses, which are run specifically for the programs.
The programs have been carefully designed to ensure that the learning is underpinned with valuable historical, cultural and design study which compliments the unique combination of specialist fashion and make-up courses. There is also the benefit of experiencing all the unique and stimulating cultural resources that the capital and its fashion industry have to offer.
The wide range of subject specializations offered can be divided into two types of activity: studio based/practical workshops (fashion design, make-up programs), and lecture/seminar courses (mechandising and communications program). At the London College of Fashion you do not have tests or quizzes. See the brochure for full descriptions.
Courses will be accredited as 6 credits of INTD 3985 Special Topics with S/U grading and 6 credits of UNIV 3991 Interdisciplinary Internship Field Study Experience with S/U grading. A lower LCF course load would get pro-rated UCONN credits. Additional letter graded credits may be awarded on a case-by case basis but are rare.
As with any London based University, the London College of Fashion has sites around Central London. This gives students a diverse and wide knowledge and experience of London. The main site, which houses the study abroad office, is situated in the heart of the west end and is surrounded by many offices of the leading British Fashion Retailers. This allows students to gain first hand experience of the British Fashion Industry as it unfolds. Being centrally located, you are never far from interesting museums and galleries, the best cinema and theatre venues, and fantastic bars and restaurants.
As a member of the University of the Arts, London, the study abroad office is able to offer a flat (apartment) share scheme for fall and spring semesters. The flats are based in Central London – a mere 10 minute tube ride away from the main site. Click on this link and scroll down to “accommodations”.
While at the London College of Fashion, you will be entitled to the usual college technological privileges. You will have use of the open access information technology rooms which house IBM compatible word processors running MS Word for Windows software. You will also be provided with your own London College of Fashion e-mail address, and have access to the internet and e-mail facilities during the program.
